Case Studies

Erie Insurance partnered with Green Gears to execute their first national advertising campaign and unleash a Seriously Good Summer© in Western Pennsylvania. Green Gears provided free pedicab shuttles at Pirate’s baseball games and worked with Wu’s Shaved Ice and Ted’s Excellent Bike Repair to distribute free shaved ice at South Park and complimentary bicycle tune-ups in South Side. Erie also sponsored a Green Gears event waste services event in the city of Erie.

Erie Insurance measured their success by social media engagements, the survey response of new and grateful customers, and on-site censuses of event footprints. Erie’s satisfaction led to three straight years of mobile billboards, premium distributions, and free pedicab shuttle services over Christmas and Thanksgiving.

Destination Cleveland approached Green Gears to promote the launch of NEOCycle, an urban cycling festival consisting of competitive races, unique rides, and lots of beer. Green Gears designed a summerlong promotion which featured free tune-ups provided by Ted’s Excellent Bike Repair with one to coincide with Pittsburgh’s largest cycling festival, PedalPGH. At these pop-up events we collected email addresses in order to execute a ticket giveaway.

Destination Cleveland measured their success by social media engagements, emails collected at pop-up events, and ticket sales in the Pittsburgh region. Cleveland repeated these engagements through 2018 - the last year of the festival to date.

Sweetwater Brewing decided to crack into the American Mid-Atlantic and partnered with Green Gears to float Pittsburgh away from the mainstream. Green Gears maximized outdoor exposure by driving the Sweetwater branded pedicab in local parades and festivals. With positive feedback, we pushed to institute “Tap Takeovers” where our bikes took all spots in the front of a bar and offered free Sweetwater to all patrons with great effect.

Sweetwater kept Green Gears on board for both years of their city-wide advertising blitz and measured success by increased Sweetwater sales, social media engagement, on the ground observation of “Tap Takeovers.”

Soon after Bank of America announced it would open its first full-service financial centers in Pittsburgh Green Gears contacted their ad agency to make this announcement into an authentic celebration of Pittsburgh. That summer we threw a ten-day “Back to School” festival at the University Center complete with field games, ice cream sandwiches from Page Dairy Mart, popsicles from Popsburgh, bottled spring water, morning yoga in the park, and free pedicab rides for students who, like Bank of America, were moving into this great city.

Bank of America employees staffed an on site mobile banking unit and judged the event a success based on the number of checking accounts opened in addition to premium distribution, on-the-ground engagement, and media engagement driven by the event.
